The name is not borrowed; it is inherited. The Aemilii Scauri were a Roman house remembered for roads, public works and civil office — for building the connective infrastructure on which commerce depended. We take the same view of the work, and the same view of time.

Stillness is only safe when the world agrees to stand still with you. It never does. So we keep moving — not for the sake of speed, but because standing still is the one position with no future in it.
We think on a large scale, and then we multiply it. Someone always arrives to bring you back to earth; by then we have already seen where this was going.
A name like this does not begin. It returns. Empires pass, the roads remain, and the people who built them have a way of coming back.

HISTORICAL NOTE
As Censor in 109 BC, Marcus Aemilius Scaurus commissioned the Via Aemilia Scauri — a road built to carry commerce where none had run before. The empire that ordered it is gone. The road, in places, is still there. We think that is the more useful lesson.
